The Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry excels in interdisciplinary work and industrial collaborations. Graduate students here have a few different pathways to undertake green chemistry research: a SAGE IGERT fellowship at UCB or Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, working on industrially-inspired problems in the Greener Solutions program, or an internship at an external organization.

STUDENTS SAY...

Interacting with students and professors from a diverse range of departments has been really rewarding. As a part of the BCGC group, I have had many opportunities to collaborate with companies in the green consumer products realm.

The amazing people involved in BCGC do progressive work at the intersection of chemistry, environmental health, and sustainability, using a fresh and much-needed interdisciplinary approach.

BCGC is not a self-contained graduate program, and your department will largely determine the quality of your student experience. Some departments offer more research freedom and support, while others have narrower programs and require some extra effort to incorporate green chemistry.
